I am a big fan of tarot and oracle decks and am always on the lookout for a new deck to play with. I love doing daily spreads where I draw a card to reflect on the day’s lesson or to set an intention if I draw it early enough.
I also love doing spreads for my birthday, at the end of the year as a way to review what happened, and even at the beginning of the year as a way to set goals and choose a theme for my year.
In the last decade or so that I’ve been using tarot and oracle cards, I have come across some really wonderful decks. Here are the ones that I reach for over and over again. To quote Dave Matthews, they are the best of what’s around.
Bonus: I have a whole board on Pinterest for tarot and oracle spreads if this is something you’re interested in.
The tarot and oracle decks that I use the most:
- The Universal Waite Tarot Deck
This is the OG and the one that I reach for time and again. It’s classic and it also hits just right. Looking for a reliable site to help you dive into the cards more? Biddy Tarot is the best online reference there is. - The Sacred Creators Oracle from Chris-Ann
This is an oracle deck and is hands down my favorite. I love the cards, I love how the first 21 cards in the deck overlap with the major arcana in tarot, and I absolutely love the guidebook that came with it. I always get the best nuggets from this one. - The Vintage Tattoo Tarot from Alyssa Wilson
This beautifully illustrated deck is by one of my favorite artists on Instagram (@artby.ocha). It’s a traditional tarot deck with a modern, queer, and whimsical spin. I also love that the focus of these cards is on self-transformation and healing. Yes, please. - Elemental Power Tarot from Melinda Lee Holm
This deck eliminates human figures entirely and presents scenes based on the five elements: fire, water, air, earth, and spirit. I love that the guidebook includes tangible ways to bring the major arcana into real world existence. - Work Your Light Oracle Cards from Rebecca Campbell
I have loved Rebecca Campbell since I read her book, Light Is The New Black, so when she came out with her first oracle deck, I was immediately on board. I find I use this one as an extra bonus card for a spread or whenever I need a little extra clarification or inspiration.
Two other tarot and oracle decks that I adore, but don’t find myself using as often due to the specific nature of the cards, are Rebel Deck: Oracle with Attitude from Rebel Deck and the Money Compass Deck from Jenny Karlsson.
(PSST — if you’re in the Pittsburgh area, Ceremonial has an amazing selection of decks, including a few I’ve had my eye on for a while.)
